Action Threshold: Definition and What it is

The pest population level at which control measures should be implemented to prevent economic or health damage.

What is Action threshold?

An action threshold, also known as an economic threshold, is the pest population density at which pest control measures should be taken to prevent the pest population from reaching an economic injury level. This concept is fundamental to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.

Action thresholds help pest management professionals determine when intervention is necessary, avoiding unnecessary pesticide applications and reducing costs. Thresholds vary by pest type, location, time of year, and specific circumstances.
