What is a Roof rat?

The roof rat (Rattus rattus), also known as the black rat or ship rat, is a species of rat known for its excellent climbing ability. Roof rats are smaller and more agile than Norway rats and often nest in attics, upper levels of buildings, and trees.

Roof rats are excellent climbers and can access buildings through trees, vines, and utility lines. They prefer elevated nesting sites and are more common in warmer climates and coastal areas.
